Lessons from Mother Earth

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

I started a backyard garden in June with the intention to connect more to Mother Earth. The notion was to grow my relationship with her other than just saying that I care about the environment or buying a few house plants.

It’s been one of those experiences above and beyond what I had imagined. Mother Earth has taught me so much, and my love and appreciation for her has truly deepened.

As a newbie gardener, I share these thoughts on whatever you are creating in your life:

1. It’s okay to not know what you are doing.

Just give it a go; learn from your mistakes; make adjustments; and keep going. I knew I was on the right track when my seeds started to take life. If your intention is from the heart, you will be guided. If it’s from the ego or a low vibration, there will be some hard lessons.

2. Keep it simple.

I used recycled materials to make a planter container and a separate flower perimeter. (An old bookshelf or set of stairs works!) Although I bought soil for my edible garden, I used the backyard dirt for my flowers. It had small bits of plastic, glass, and concrete from renovation work several years ago. Weeds had no problem growing in it, so I thought it’d also be possible for flowers to thrive. And they are!!

3. Be consistent with the time you give to your intention.

How you use your time might be different, but make it joyful. Sometimes there is the energy of 'doing' such as watering, weeding, and pruning. Other times I take quiet moments to be in its company.

4. Creating something is not a linear path, nor are things necessarily on our timeline.

Sometimes the growth is hard to see. Other times there’s a noticeable spurt! If things start to get stunted, withered, or attacked, take a step back to assess the situation. It’s all simply information to see what the next step will be. When we notice what’s happening in the present, we begin to see more clearly the next natural response that can arise.

May whatever you choose to grow start from your heart.

Be well,

Tammy
